Abstract
Back to Trentowski!
In the paper I introduce three concepts: philosophical topoi, Classical Polish Philosophy and contraposition of immanent god and transcendent God. By the philosophical topos I mean a philosopher or philosophers whose intellectual work is used in a tradition to create its own terminology, topics, methods, axioms etc. Different topoi are used by different traditions to make themselves distinct. E. g. Anglo-Saxon tradition is mostly preoccupied by problems posed by Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Russell et al. Those topoi set the stage for a philosopher who wants to engage into the mainstream analytical philosophy. Another such topos is Classical German Philosophy for Frankfurt School. The second introduced concept, of Classical Polish Philosophy serves as the name for analogical topos for Polish philosophical tradition (it is the name mainly for the works of Cieszkowski, Libelt and Trentowski). Poland has not still constituted its own philosophical tradition, therefore, it needs some incentive. The proposed category is meant as the impulse for the constitution of the national line of thought. I also present a historical review of underestimation of one of the representative of the Classical Polish Philosophy, Bronisław Ferdynand Trentowski. Poland does not need to establish its own philosophical tradition to distinguish itself. The aim is to make philosophy a discipline in which a Pole could find himself at home, as Anglo-Saxon, French or German can. Of course, the tradition should not be taken from the thin air. So, to show that Classical Polish Philosophy and especially Trentowski has much to offer I use a contraposition of immanent god and transcendent God. The contraposition makes it possible to indicate a theory which I elaborate in my doctoral thesis, i. e. that there is a tension between the freedom of will and absolute logical and ethical value of acts and facts, and this tension could be sublated by closing the freedom in the framework of “mysterious sovereign”, the immanent counterpart of transcendent God. The God is the underwriter of all acts and facts, ideographical, not nomothetical. Nomoi, laws of nature and of society are ruling in the immanent domain of the universe. God decides and sees what he has decided. Trentowski inspires this concept of the transcendent God.
